Green Transformation in Industry: Opportunities Exist, Grant Uptake Remains Limited

The Green Transformation Academy training program, organized by the Sustainable Green Industry Unit of the Eskisehir Chamber of Industry (ESO), was delivered to ESO members.

During the two day training program hosted by the Eskisehir Chamber of Industry, participants were informed about the major economic, social, and environmental impacts of the European Union Green Deal process, particularly for manufacturing and export oriented companies.

Speaking at the opening session of the Green Transformation Academy, Ömer Benli, Coordinator of the ESO Sustainable Green Industry Unit, stated that Türkiye has significant support mechanisms in place for green transformation and clean production, but these opportunities are not being utilized effectively enough.

Benli emphasized that TÜBITAK provides substantial support to accelerate the green transformation process, offering grants of up to TRY 210 million with up to 90 percent funding coverage. He noted that industrial companies can benefit from these grants through three separate project applications. However, despite these strong incentives, interest from the industrial sector remains below expectations.

While the European Union allocates serious resources to green transformation projects, applications from industrial companies remain limited. As the ESO Sustainable Green Industry Unit, we play a key role in accelerating this process. As one of the Green Innovation Technology Mentors authorized by TÜBITAK, we provide comprehensive services to industrial companies, including corporate carbon footprint calculations and sustainability reporting, Benli stated.

Following the opening remarks, ESO Sustainable Green Industry Unit Consultant and Head of the Ecology Department at Eskisehir Technical University, Cengiz Türe, together with ESO Sustainable Green Industry Specialist Dr. Çagdas Saz, shared detailed information on the subject with participants.
